He did not throw crap at them. I don’t know if you remember correctly but the kids these kids were beggars just like him and he actually took them with him because he wanted to protect them and help them survive. What happen is that he left them alone for a while, to look out for food to feed them but they were so hungry that they didn’t wait and went to town and stole food. And when the townspeople caught them stealing and started to throw rocks at them he took responsibility for them and said that he sent them to steal in his stead. But the baron, who is a bloodthirsty psycho wanted to see them dead and killed them just for the sake of it. So what Alan is probably thinking is that, these kids died because their parents abandoned them and they had to live as beggars and suffered a tragic death because they had to steal for survival, which they would not have done if their parents didn’t abandon them. Now, it’s true that he should not have talked to them like that, but he actually took back his words after he realised that it was unfair to snap at these people and accuse them for something they didn’t do, based off of his past experience and his guilt. However, you can’t say that he got these kids killed due to his negligence, because he wanted to protect them but failed and I’m pretty sure he regrets very deeply thet he wasn’t able to save them.

In the real world, if a child is kidnapped because the parent left the child unattended in unfamiliar area regardless of the length of your absence, the disappearance/death of the child is ultimately the result of the parent’s negligence. Its common sense that you should not leave your child unattended because that is considered as bad parenting.

Yes, I totally agree with you on that point. However, it’s definitely not what happened. Certainly, he left them unattended for a while and he shouldn’t have. Notheless, it’s not like they died during his absence, because at the time he came back he could have easily saved them if it weren’t for the baron who just wanted to see them dead. However, though it’s true that he decided to take them with him and thenceforth should’ve decided to take care of them correctly, I don’t think that, at that time, he understood the extent of his responsibilities but he became aware of it later and I believe he regrets not realizing sooner.

[CAUTION!! LONG READ!] Appealing only for those who may want an in depth perspective on why the nobles have a justification for their rebellion.
Although I agree with the comments that Alex has a right to the throne, it could be argued that this right is indeed questionable ( and sometimes illegitmate) in the eyes of some nobles, such as Baron Nagen, Baron Dupree and Count Dujak, maybe due to the following reasons.
1. Even if Alex were to reveal that he is of royal blood from the previous dynasty, the nobles can just easily ignore this due to the fact that his mother’s family was deposed. Hence, the power that Alex could wield by virtue of his mother’s lineage is only symbolic (nominal) and not real. This symbolic power requires the recognitions and support of the nobles, including the same nobles that the prince made enemies of, in order to transform this symbolic power to real power. Since he disrespected the authority of almost every nobility he met in their own territories, I doubt that support for Alex’s claim among the baronies was weakened at this point.
The manner in which Alex addressed the nobles (whether good or bad) adds fuel to their disposition that he is an illegitimate successor and an unfit ruler. At this point, Alex needs to realize how he must at least show the minimum respect that should be given to the nobles. He’s more of a future tyrant at this point rather than a wise and benevolent ruler (which I think is common behavior for most princes in other manhwas). The defection of Baron Nagen to the rebellious nobles is understandable and could have been avoided had the prince showed more tact and respect within the Baron’s home. Instead, he just shoves his weight around other people’s territories. Imagine the leader of your country barging into your home unannounced and then demanding that you give him the best hospitality that you could offer at the dead of the night, such an act is reprehensible and make you wonder if he/she is indeed fit to rule.
The question for Alex here is, “Why are you carelessly and unnecessarily provoking the barons by disregarding their authorities and disrespecting them in their own territories?”. Don’t get me wrong, I fully support Alex’s actions in Baron Dupree’s territory but the same could not be said for Baron Negan. Even though Alex is the crown prince, his personal entourage understand the risks of provoking the nobles. This is why I applauded Chris for slightly reprimanding Alex in the previous chapters.
2. Eli abandoned his previous name and title as the successor of the house of McGregor, therefore abandoning his nobility, power and rights that came with his title. Some might say that technically he didn’t abandon his name and title and just feigned his death. I would argue that revealing himself after years of posing as Eli would only be fruitless since the opposing nobles would just brand him as a charlatan. There is no substantial proof that Eli is indeed Hayden McGregor unless the author whips the evidence out of thin air. I would argue that pushing and revealing Eli’s true identity would have a detrimental effect on Alex’s legitimacy to the throne since people would brand him as the son of a charlatan. Regardless, when you either willingly or unwillingly abandoned your title you cannot claim it back, unless the sovereign returns it to you. To the other nobles, Eli’s previous name and title would be irrelevant to the current matters even if he were to reveal it. If worse comes to worst, it would further soil Eli’s and Alex’s reputation. Luckily, the New King granted Eli the title of “The Duke of Westfield”. The problem is that since the some of the nobles consider the New King as a Usurper, the sovereign’s power is still not solidified, especially in the borderlands and baronies that were mentioned in the previous chapters, even after he established his authority in the capital (For an example, read the history about William the Conqueror’s campaign after the Battle of Hastings). Keep in mind that the power of a conquering sovereign does not end when he/she wears the crown of a conquered nation, it takes years to pacify each conquered region and forcefully make them accept your sovereignty over their territory. Rebellions are not uncommon after a conquest as a results of the people’s denial of a conqueror’s rule. Hence it is only rational that both Eli’s and the King’s nobility, power and rights are still questionable and not recognized by some of the nobles. More so since Eli is considered as the Usurper’s Lapdog. I imagine that the military might of the King and Eli serve as the only bastion of power that keeps the nobles in line.
3. The rights of a potential candidate to the throne is relatively weak if his royal blood came from the mother and not the father. In addition, Edna’s title changed when she married Eli, as of now, her title is “The Duchess of Westfield” first before “deposed Royal Princess of Uswald”. Since her dynasty was deposed, I imagined that this further weakens the symbolic power that Alex could wield from his mother’s blood and this power only has influence on those who have high regard for it. If it were made public, the marriage between Eli and Edna was a great political move since Edna’s blood bolsters the support on the shaky legitimacy of Eli’s title while still making the symbolic power of the previous dynasty relevant in the current political affairs (Political move employed by Tamerlane when he married Genghis Khan’s grand daughter in order to be recognized as the legitimate Khan of the Timurid Empire).
Summary: Since the King of Uswald has no children, on paper, Alex’s legitimacy to the throne of Uswald is quite strong since his father is the brother of the Usurper King and his mother is the deposed princess. Even though they are related by blood, since Eli abandoned his previous name (Hayden McGregor) and title, Alex and Eli are not considered as members of the McGregor Dynasty (current ruling dynasty).Opposition to Eli’s ascension to the throne boils down to the rejection of the rights, power and authority of the New King and Eli, this is why Alex suspects that war (civil war or rebellion) would occur either before or after his ascension to the throne. Please understand that the power of a monarchial realm does not solely rests on the sovereign but also on the nobility. If the majority of the nobility disapproves of Alex’s claim to the throne then the prince cannot ascend the throne without making compromises with the nobility.
