The only fault that i find with this manwha is that… this much etiquette and a strict routine would be expected of nobilty but its framed as a bad thing, however the world is not a nice place and that was a really different time so such things as strict discipline were needed even if by our modern people standards it would seem brutal, the times themselves were brutal and whoever couldnt measure up would be either killed or left for dead. make the duke family antagonists, beside all that its an okish story.

I really like the fact that the emperor’s demons are coming back to hunt him now and question the happiness that he currently relishes. Therefore, he desperately and anxiously tries to hold on to any vestige of euphoria that he feels whenever he’s with the FL. He is well aware that he can never have catharsis without fully redeeming himself to his wife whom he treated poorly.
This series is unique for me since I rarely see manhwas where terrible male leads are constantly badgered by their guilty consciousness and regrettable decisions. I feel blissful satisfaction whenever they feel intense shame and regret as they reflect on their past transgressions, pure poetic justice.
I hold these truths to be self evident that terrible male leads are almost always pardoned for their abusive and repulsive acts just because they’re either devilishly handsome or obsessively committed to the FL. Moreover, their unacceptable behavior towards the FL and those around them are exonerated either because of their terrible childhood or unfortunate adulthood or both.
In contrast, FL’s are depicted as resilient and persevering individuals who maintain their kind, caring and understanding personalities despite experiencing undeserved abuse and severe mistreatment either from their family, enemies, friends, lovers or all of the aforementioned. In some cases, the stakes are even higher against the FL when she has someone precious to protect other than the ML.
This begs the question, when we admire the fortitude and tenacity of the female leads in the face of such adversities, why do we dismissively exonerate the abusers (MLs) whenever they commit intolerable acts? Why do we naturally accept the unfortunate circumstances that befall the ones we relate to and root for (FL) when we dismiss the actions of the lead perpetrators? How can we justify the absolution of the sinner when they’re not dealt with just and sufficient retribution? Food for thought.
Even though the emperor genuinely loves the FL now, I really hope that the he would have a very long redemption arc, because I feel like the series of misfortunes that he currently experiences are grossly insufficient. I also hope that his commitment to realize his goal of making the FL happy is thoroughly tested by various unfavorable situations. In addition, I sincerely desire that the authors of the manhwa “I gave birth to the tyrant’s child” could place Kyle (ML) in similar situations as the ML in this manhwa.
I hope that the previous statements have not misled you into thinking that I bear ill will towards the emperor. Quite the contrary, I admire his effort and determination as he strives to redeem himself in our eyes and the mage of the clocktower’s eyes. Despite this, I will not suffer blatant dispensation of good fortune on the emperor which inevitably results in undeserved success.
Bravo to the creators of this manhwa. Bravo, good sirs and madams. One of my favorite manhwas so far.

i know a lot of poeple were against the ml and calling him names for how he treated the fl, but they way i saw it is that he didnt care for her because he saw her as a doll for how she was acting, so when she died he didnt feel anything for her, it wasnt until he read her journal that realized that she wasnt in fact a doll, but a human that was traumatize, and he is doing all this to atoned for his past and give her a better future.

For all that people and certain demographics like to harp about it, I’m surprised by how many are actually ignorant about it… including an author who chose to write a manhwa set in the Regency era.

It depends on the corset type though, there’s a psychiatrist who anonymously tells the stories of her patients (they have to consent to it obviously) and there was a girl who was forced to wear corset (that looked really similar to the drawings) in which it was hard to move, breath, eat, drink and she wasn’t allowed to take the corset until she was home at night when she wouldn’t leave her room anymore, so she couldn’t even go to the bathroom. That girl who wore those corsets also passed out and her body had a lot of damage. Those corsets aren’t made for comfort or support, but yes not all corsets are bad, so it depends on the type.

Even beyond the gender change, I feel like this kind of manhwa is either someone who had really bad luck getting another chance, or a villain getting the chance to be smarter and in time becomes better as well.
